Exclusive visit to Jinmen, the starting point of the Southern Silk Road
By Duan Changying
The Southern Silk Road is one of the oldest international trade routes in China. It was from Chengdu, Sichuan province, through Yunnan, to India and finally reached Europe, spanning a total length of approximately 2,000 kilometers. The Southern Silk Road was also known as “Shu Shen Du Dao” in the past, in which “Shen Du” shares the pronunciation with “Sindh”, which is now a province in Pakistan.

"Jinmen," located at the north gate of Chengdu, is the starting point of the Southern Silk Road. The Jinmen Scenic Spot spans an area of nearly 0.2 square kilometers and is centered around silk culture and the centuries-old business and mansion buildings. This is a unique experience for Meiyue, a Pakistani tourism enthusiast.

“When you come across old lanes or old architecture and ancient style objects, as if you are back to the past watching long processions of camels carrying merchandise in from the Silk Road. It seems to have seen the prosperity of trade in the past.” Meiyue imagined stepping on the streets.
