Beijing, Nov 29, (China Economic Net) - The Al-Dhafra Solar Power Plant, built by Chinese contractors, has reached its full completion in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This achievement holds significant importance as it coincides with the upcoming 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), scheduled to take place in Dubai from November 30 to December 12.

As the world's largest single-unit photovoltaic power station, the Al-Dhafra Solar Power Plant stands as a crucial project in green energy under the  Belt and Road Initiative. This cutting-edge facility will provide electricity to approximately 200,000 households and annually reduce carbon emissions by an impressive 2.4 million tons, effectively raising the share of clean energy in the UAE's overall energy structure to over 13%.

During a recent press conference held on November 29th, Wang Wenbin, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, expressed China's support for the UAE in hosting a successful climate conference. He emphasized China's commitment to aligning the development of the Green Silk Road with the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

China has emerged as a proactive participant in global climate governance, boasting the world's largest clean energy network. Wang highlighted several other notable examples of China's dedication to green development and cooperation in combating climate change, including the Sachal Wind Power Station in Pakistan, the Noor III Concentrated Solar Power Plant in Morocco, the Harsa Power Station in Qatar and the Garissa Solar Power Station in Kenya.

“China has not only helped many developing countries overcome the severe energy crisis but also assisted in promoting green development. Projects such as the Suki Kinari Hydropower project under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) are producing clean and green energy in Pakistan,” commented Pakistani expert Abid Qaiyum Suleri, excecutive diector of Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) of Pakistan. Pakistan will also actively participate in COP28, at which a total of 28 panel discussions will be held on wide ranging critical issues at the Pakistan Pavilion.
