SANYA, Mar. 19 (China Economic Net) – On March 17, the four-day 2024 China Seed (Nanfan Agriculture Silicon Valley) Congress opened in Sanya, Hainan, which is expected to draw in 10 academicians and nearly 200 guests, including eight chief scientists of the national industrial technology system.

 

 

An indoor exhibition is showcasing the construction of the Sanya Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City, as well as the development of agricultural cultivation in Hainan. With more than 40 enterprises participating, including China Seed Group and Longping High-tech, all attendees could have the opportunity to witness the latest achievements and innovations in the industry.

 

Meanwhile, the exhibition in the Yazhou National Modern Agricultural (Seed Industry) Industrial Park will showcase about 2,322 crop varieties, from rice to corn, melons, vegetables and cereals from around the world.

 

“In 2021, China Seed Group officially settled in the “Nanfan Silicon Valley”, showcasing development at a rapid pace,” Song Weibo, General Manager of China National Seed Group Co., Ltd., the core operating platform of Syngenta Group China, pointed out in his keynote speech, “Last year, domestic seed industry revenue of China Seed Group reached 5.2 billion yuan, of which new varieties accounted for 20%, and the market share of the four major crops was about 10.6%.” 

 

 

“In the next two years, we’re going to accelerate the cultivation of new quality productive forces from three fields. First, continue to increase investment in scientific research; next, promote cooperation with relevant research institutes to accelerate the industrialization and commercialization of high-quality research results; furthermore, increase the application of digital agriculture and new breeding technologies, by which effectively improve farmers’ income levels." Ying Minjie, Vice President of Syngenta Group China, emphasized.

 

On March 18, Syngenta Group China and China Seed Group Co., Ltd. jointly hosted the Seed Industry New Innovation System and enterprise Science Cooperation Seminar, during which the opening ceremony for the Key Laboratory of Rice and Corn Biological Breeding of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China was held. Meanwhile, a series of cooperation agreements, including saline-tolerant gene multi-crop application project cooperation agreement, soybean varieties joint breeding and development agreement, were also signed accordingly.

 

Except for the needs of the domestic seed industry, Syngenta Group China has adhered to the Belt and Road Initiative and the agricultural “going global” strategy for many years. The cooperative promotion projects of subsidiary company Win-all Hi-Tech Seed Co., Ltd have taken root in a large number of developing countries, among which the Angola farm project has a cumulative grain planting area of more than 8,500 hectares with a cumulative production of more than 40,000 tons of grain. More than 60,000 hectares of hybrid corn and hybrid rice varieties have been promoted in the country. In addition, molecular breeding technology was used to select 4 corn varieties and 2 rice varieties suitable for growing in local high-altitude acidic soil areas. Through variety selection, technology demonstration and personnel training, the grain yield of local farmers has generally increased by more than 30%.
