BEIJING, July 29 (China Economic Net) – At the 2024 China - Australia Green Economy Roundtable held on July 25 in Beijing, Dominic Trindade, Minister (Commercial) of the Australian Embassy in Beijing, hailed China's role in promoting sustainable development.

"China's environmental services sector is one of the fastest growing in the world, with Chinese companies already developing globally competitive capabilities", he told China Economic Net (CEN), stressing the need to build service and technology innovation so that the two countries can partner well on the net zero journeys.

"The alignment of China's "3060" objective and Australia's accelerated clean energy transition creates a perfect environment for bilateral collaboration, particularly in urban renewal, sustainable building, and education. Now services that fuel the green economy such as EV repair, sustainable architecture, and more are a part of our BAU", he said.

As an emerging area for cooperation, the environment is standing out ever more prominently in China-Australia cooperation. In September this year, Australia will prioritize the environment, in addition to education, at the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), which has announced Australia as this year's theme country.

"Together with the Chinese partners, we go global and optimize our supply chain", Karl Qiu, President of Worley China, a provider of sustainable engineering solutions, told China Economic Net (CEN).

He said that China, as the largest market of energy consumption, also brings opportunities to the world through its investment overseas.

"China's renewable energy products have established a presence in over 60 percent of the global supply chain. It is a significant player for internationals of various scales. For us, we find vast opportunities here, especially solar energy and lithium battery materials for electric vehicles", he said.

"While we are based in China, 40% of our revenue comes from overseas projects that are designed by our staff in China. Lately, we're preparing to sign a contract with a Chinese company to jointly provide design services for a world-class project", he added.

The environmental services section debuted at the China services trade fair in 2022, set up against the background of the country's "dual carbon" goals. China has announced that it will strive for peaking carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.

Since 2015, China's environmental services have registered a growth of over 150%. Focusing on areas such as low-carbon energy, carbon economy, carbon neutrality, and green technology, the fair showcases cutting-edge environmental applications so as to encourage innovation and cooperation.

By "showcasing Australian capabilities and innovative solutions in education and green economy", the country will explore "potential collaboration opportunities" and reflect "how both countries can collaborate through partnerships to achieve mutual climate goals", said Minister Dominic Trindade.
