BEIJING, Sept. 13 (China Economic Net) - The 3rd Forum on Meteorology and Economy was held as part of the 2024 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) at the China National Convention Center in Beijing on September 12. Under the theme "Climate Change and Human Health," the forum addressed how global efforts in meteorology and healthcare can collaborate to combat the rising health risks associated with climate change.

During the forum, Xiong Shaoyuan, Deputy Director of the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), underscored the urgency of addressing climate change's impact on public health. Mentioning the recent launch of a joint meteorological-health lab between the National Climate Center, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, and the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, he emphasized the lab’s goal to collaborate with international research institutes, sharing expertise and data to build resilience against health risks such as heat-related illnesses, infectious diseases, and respiratory conditions exacerbated by climate shifts.

On the occasion, ”Wonder Watch 1.0," the world's first meteorological warning smartwatch was unveiled. The watch, designed to monitor weather conditions and provide health warnings, marks a breakthrough in the integration of weather data with real-time health protection.

In addition to "Wonder Watch 1.0," the National Chest Pain Center Expert Committee unveiled a cold-weather risk forecast system for acute coronary syndrome (ACS), utilizing big data from the Chest Pain Center to predict heart-related risks during cold waves. Moji Weather also introduced four weather-health products, including forecasts for pain, allergies, flu, and heatstroke, aiming to provide comprehensive health protection services to users.

The forum concluded with a call for strengthened global collaboration between the meteorological and healthcare sectors. Hosted by the China Meteorological Service Association (CMSA) and supported by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the event reinforced the need for ongoing international cooperation and technological innovation to address the rising health threats linked to climate change.
