During the five-day May Day holiday, inbound and outbound travel in south China’s Hainan Province continued to rise. As of 6 p.m. on May 5, the island recorded a total of 289 cross-border transport operations and 36,000 inbound and outbound passenger movements, marking a 45.8% increase compared to the same period last year.
The steady optimization and expansion of visa-free entry policies - centered on Hainan’s 59-country visa-free scheme - have better met the diverse travel demands of foreign visitors. Since the beginning of 2025, the province has recorded 889,000 inbound and outbound passenger trips, up 16.1% year-on-year. Of these, 421,000 were foreign nationals, representing a 62.5% increase over the same period last year. Visa-free entries rose by 75.7% year-on-year, accounting for 90.3% of all inbound foreign travelers.
