HANGZHOU, Oct 27 (China Economic Net) - The “International Training Program on Deep-sea Ecology & Sustainability” hosted by the Department of International Cooperation of China’s Ministry of Science and Technology is underway in Hangzhou. It has brought together 23 professionals from 13 developing countries—including Pakistan, South Africa, Iran, Egypt, India—for a 15-day program to learn China’s leading science and technologies in deep-sea conservation and sustainable development.

Jointly undertaken by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the BRICS Deep-sea Resources International Research Center, etc., the program focuses on various cutting-edge fields such as deep-sea ecosystem conservation, sustainable utilization of deep-sea resources, marine negative emissions, blue food systems, international ocean drilling and polar science. Its content covers physical oceanography, marine chemistry, marine carbon cycle, remote sensing monitoring, and marine conservation and governance.

Furthermore, the training program integrates expert lectures, experimental operations and academic conferences. It fully showcases China’s latest progress in deep-sea and marine sustainable development research, laying a solid foundation for broader international cooperation in the future.

“The peaceful use and sustainable development of the deep sea depend on global collaboration, especially talent cultivation in developing countries,” noted Zhang Zhanhai, Chairman of China Ocean Mineral Resources Research and Development Association during the program.
