For countless farmers across Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America, the toil of manual farming is a familiar reality: hours under the scorching sun, sickle in hand, racing against the weather to save crops before ruin sets in. For generations, modern agricultural mechanization has remained a luxury, reserved exclusively for large-scale commercial farms. Today, that outdated narrative is being rewritten.

Chinese agricultural machinery is making its way into fields across the world. From rice paddies in Indonesia to sugarcane fields in Kenya, Chinese farm equipment is transforming how these countries grow, harvest, and process their crops, turning labor-intensive hardship into efficient, productive agriculture.

China's agricultural machinery exports are surging at an unprecedented pace. Data from China Customs shows that in 2025, China's agricultural machinery exports reached 67.42 billion yuan (about $9.42 billion), a year-on-year increase of 32.3%. In 2024, China ranked as the world's third-largest agricultural machinery exporter; by the first half of 2025, it had claimed the second place globally, trailing only Germany.

In particular, over 60% of these exports flow to Belt and Road countries, with explosive growth recorded across Africa and Southeast Asia, while exports to Latin America also maintained a robust double-digit growth rate in 2025, solidifying China's position as a key player in the global agricultural machinery market.

What makes Chinese machinery so popular? Above all, customized adaptation to local conditions has enabled China's agricultural machinery to take a path of differentiated competition in the global market.

China's agricultural machinery has been improved in line with the market needs and agronomic characteristics of various countries, accurately addressing the pain points of local users. For instance, for the high-temperature and dusty environment of Africa, China's agricultural machinery has enhanced heat dissipation systems and optimized the structure of small tractors; in the muddy rice-growing areas of Southeast Asia, it has widened crawler tracks to improve passability; for large-scale grain farms in Kazakhstan, it has developed high-flow variable displacement piston pumps to meet the needs of precision sowing.

Another key advantage is its strong versatility. A single walking tractor, paired with interchangeable implements, can perform tillage, ditching, sowing, and even power irrigation and processing equipment, perfectly aligning with the fragmented production scenarios and limited resources of small-scale farmers. In 2025, China exported a total of 185,539 tractors, a year-on-year increase of 20.2%, with a total export value of 8.98 billion yuan (about $1.25 billion), a year-on-year increase of 34.2%.

Equally pivotal is its unmatched cost-effectiveness and accessibility. Chinese equipment delivers robust performance at a fraction of the cost of its international counterparts. According to Yu Anling, President of Jining Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Deputy to the 14th National People's Congress (NPC), China's mature supply chain, large-scale production, and efficient operation and management support its agricultural machinery in boasting high cost-effectiveness across a full range of products, with flexible combinations of high-, medium-, and low-end models that can meet the market needs of different countries. For example, she noted, the price of Chinese tractors with more than 100 horsepower is only 1/3 to 1/2 of that of global competitors. Furthermore, with a continuous increase in R&D investment, product reliability has been significantly improved, and fault-free working hours have been greatly extended, ensuring that affordability does not come at the cost of quality.

The first-mover advantage in intelligence and green transition has allowed China's agricultural machinery to seize the initiative in industrial transformation. Amid the global trend of agricultural machinery moving towards electrification and intelligence, China's agricultural machinery has taken the lead in layout, forming a unique competitive barrier. Beidou navigation technology is deeply applied in agricultural machinery autonomous driving, achieving centimeter-level precision operation; exports of new energy agricultural machinery have grown substantially, and plant protection drones have maintained a leading position with over 60% of the global market share, offering green solutions for the agricultural modernization transformation in more than 100 countries.
