BEIJING, April 1 (China Economic Net) – The China-Pakistan initiative concerning the Gulf and Middle East region is open, and all countries and international organizations are welcome to respond and participate, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Wednesday.

Mao made the remarks at a regular press briefing after China and Pakistan proposed a five-point initiative aimed at restoring peace and stability in the Gulf and Middle East region during talks between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar in Beijing on Tuesday.

The five points call for an immediate cessation of hostilities, the earliest possible start of peace talks, ensuring the security of non-military targets and shipping lanes, and upholding the primacy of the United Nations Charter.

As key members of the Global South, China and Pakistan have put forward a rational and just position, hoping to build greater consensus and pool stronger efforts within the international community. The goal is to help ease the current tensions and restore peace and tranquility in the Gulf and Middle East region at an early date, the spokesperson said.

“China will continue to maintain close communication with Pakistan and other relevant parties to play a constructive role in promoting ceasefire and an end to hostilities,” Mao added.
