BEIJING, April 25 (China Economic Net) --The 2026 China International Sesame Conference (Spring), held in the coastal city of Qingdao, brought together global stakeholders from across the sesame value chain to discuss market trends, trade cooperation, and future supply dynamics. The event served as a key platform for exporters, importers, and industry leaders to strengthen partnerships and explore new opportunities in the fast-growing sesame sector.

Among the notable participants was Gopal Khamuani, Chairman of Pakistan Kanwal Trading Company (Pvt) Ltd, who represented Pakistan and delivered a comprehensive presentation on the country's sesame seed market. His analysis highlighted Pakistan's rising importance as a reliable supplier to China and other international markets.

Sesame continues to play a crucial role in global food security and processing industries, with China maintaining its position as one of the largest importers. Reflecting this growing trade relationship, according to data from the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (GACC), Pakistan exported 33,160.158 tons of sesame seeds worth $32.11 million to China during the first three months of 2026, demonstrating strong bilateral trade momentum.

In his presentation, Khamuani noted that Pakistan's sesame production for the 2025–2026 season reached approximately 290,000 tons, with around 180,000 tons exported globally. Despite a 20% reduction in cultivation area, production remained stable, supported by consistent yields of about 320 kg per acre .

He emphasized that Pakistan's sesame seeds are increasingly recognized for their quality, gaining acceptance in China, the European Union, the United States, and the Middle East. Demand for hulled sesame and value-added products such as tahini is also on the rise, offering new growth avenues for exporters. It is noteworthy that Pakistan exported 87,572.51 tons of sesame seeds to China in 2025, valued at $101.65 million, according to GACC data.
