Yu Zhengsheng was elected chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the top political advisory body, here in Beijing Monday afternoon.
Yu was elected at the fourth plenary meeting of the first session of the 12th CPPCC National Committee.
Yu Zhengsheng, born in April, 1945 is the former CPC party chief in Shanghai, China, a post which makes him first-in-charge of China's largest city.
Formerly the party secretary in Hubei, Yu is also concurrently a member of the CPC Central Political Bureau since November 2002, and he was also elected to the 18th Standing Committee of the Political Bureau in November 2012.
