Two Chinese engineers, who were released after been abducted by unidentified men in Sudan's Kordofan region, arrived in Khartoum on Friday and are in good health condition, according to a source at Chinese Embassy here.

The freed Chinese engineers were received upon arrival at Khartoum airport by the Charge d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Sudan Wang Yi and Sudanese Petroleum Minister Makawi Mohamed Awad.

"The Sudanese government and the Chinese Embassy have exerted considerable efforts to free the abducted," Wang said.

About half a month ago, an armed group, belonging to the Darfur rebel Justice and Equality Movement, attacked Kanar oil field of the Sudanese Greater Nile Petroleum Operating Company at Balila town in West Kordofan State and abducted three engineers, two Chinese and a Sudanese, according to local media.

Rebel groups have been active along the borders of Darfur and Kordofan regions in western Sudan, where these groups usually target vital projects such as oil fields to put pressure on the central government in Khartoum.
