China, ASEAN jointly recommend brands

The China-ASEAN Business Council (CABC) held a press conference in Beijing on Thursday to release a list of recommended brand-name products manufactured by China and the ASEAN bloc.

Sixty companies and products from China were listed, as well as 45 companies from ASEAN countries.

The recommendation list is intended to enhance understanding between both sides and promote economic cooperation, said Xu Ningning, executive secretary general of CABC.

China is the biggest trading partner for ASEAN, while ASEAN is China's third-largest.

Trade volume between China and ASEAN reached 400 billion U.S. dollars in 2012, up 10.3 percent year on year and outpacing China's foreign trade growth rate of 6.2 percent. In the first four months of 2013, trade volume between the two sides hit 138.97 billion U.S. dollars, up 18.1 percent year on year.

China and ASEAN should work to build more of their own brands in order to obtain a competitive edge in the international market, Xu said.

CABC is a key dialogue and cooperation mechanism for China and ASEAN member countries.
