At least six people were charred to death in a deadly fire which broke out at a factory on the outskirts of the southern Indian state of Karnataka's capital Bengaluru Monday, a senior police official said.
"The fire initially broke out at a neighboring timber yard and subsequently spread to the car seat production factory early this morning when some of the workers were sleeping and thus trapped inside. We have recovered six charred bodies," he said, on condition of anonymity.
Local TV channels reported that some 10 fire tenders took several hours to bring the blaze under control.
A probe has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the fire, the official added.
Fires in Indian factories are common because of lack of enforcement of safety regulations. Last year, major fire at a fireworks factory in neighboring state of Tamil Nadu claimed the lives of 38 workers.
