A senior Minister in the southern Indian state of Kerala has resigned following charges of domestic violence leveled by his wife.
Actor-turned-politician K.B. Ganesh Kumar quit as Forest Minister Monday night, hours after his wife slapped domestic violence charges against him at a press meeting and lodged a police complaint.
The 46-year-old politician, who had Monday morning filed divorce petition in a family court, however, denies his wife's allegations as "totally baseless", and reportedly stated in his resignation letter that he was quitting "owing to personal reasons ".
Kerala is ruled by Congress-led United Democratic Front which is surviving on a wafer-thin majority of just three members.
The opposition parties in the state have quickly seized the opportunity and demanded Chief Minister Oommen Chandy's resignation over the issue.
