Cambodia on Tuesday appealed to all concerned parties in the conflict on the Korean peninsula to return to dialogue in order to solve the issue peacefully, said Koy Kuong, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"Cambodia urges all sides to return to 'negotiation table' to solve the issue peacefully and to maintain peace and stability in the peninsula," he told reporters.
His appeal was made after recently escalated tension on the Korean peninsula. On Saturday, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) declared it entered a "state of war" against the Republic of Korea, and on Tuesday, the DPRK announced its intention to reopen its nuclear facilities, which were shut down under an agreement made at the six-party talks held in October 2007.
Koy Kuong said that Cambodia is closely monitoring the situation on the Korean peninsula and it has no plan to evaluate laborers and students who work and study in the Republic of Korea yet.
Some 19,850 Cambodian migrant workers are working in South Korea, according to the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, while the number of Cambodian students is unavailable.
