Malaysian PM Najib not to attend 22nd ASEAN Summit
Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak will not participate in the upcoming ASEAN Summit on April 24-25 in Brunei, and Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang, president of the Malaysian Senate and Najib's special representative, will attend the ASEAN summit instead, a source with the Brunei foreign ministry said here Tuesday.
Najib's stay at home will allow him to concentrate on the general election slated for May 5, according to a diplomatic source here.
Najib dissolved the parliament for polls on April 3, pitting his ruling National Front coalition against an opposition alliance led by former deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim.
