The Japanese Defense Ministry said about 1,000 Self-Defense Forces (SDF) personnel will join in a U.S. military drill to be held in June in U.S. California on recapturing isolated island, local media reported early Wednesday.

The military exercise will be held in U.S. Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton and San Clemente Island, reported Japan's Kyodo News Agency, adding the Ground, Maritime and Air Self-Defense Forces will all participate in the war game.

The maritime force will dispatch its Hyuga helicopter destroyer, said Kyodo.

The drill will not be premised on recapturing control of an island from a specific country and the SDF will attend the training in the United States because it is a suitable place, Kyodo cited a ministry official as saying.

Analysts said the drill would trigger suspicion from countries that have territorial disputes with Japan.
