Brunei will become the focus of regional and international attention as it hosts the 22nd ASEAN Summit for two days starting on Wednesday night.

Leaders of the 10 ASEAN member states will gather at the Prime Minister's Office here to discuss key economic and political issues.

They are expected to push ahead with measures to meet the ASEAN Community target by 2015. Brunei will make use of the opportunity as Chair of ASEAN this year to benefit from the role of the country, in terms of contributing to regional and global peace and prosperity.

The 10 ASEAN countries now envisage an ultimate integration with the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) being the goal of regional economic integration among member states by 2015.

At the summit, ASEAN leaders will review and discuss the current progress of ASEAN integration and community building efforts, including the implementation of the roadmap for an ASEAN Community (2009-2015) and the master plan on ASEAN Connectivity.

Brunei's theme for the chairmanship is 'Our People, Our Future Together'. The theme stresses the role of the peoples of the 10 ASEAN Member States in advancing cooperation in the political- security, economic and socio-cultural communities.
