Tremor hit parts of northern India, including the capital Delhi and Indian-controlled Kashmir, Wednesday following a strong earthquake in Afghanistan, an official said.

"Mild tremor, lasting for five seconds, was felt in parts of northern India following the 6.2 magnitude earthquake in Afghanistan. The neighboring Pakistan felt the tremor," the official said.

However, there have been no reports of any casualty or damage to property in India, he added.

The epicenter of the quake was said to be in southeastern Afghanistan at a depth of 70 kilometers.

The earthquake came just days after a strong earthquake, measuring 7.8 on the Richter Scale, hit Iran near the border with southwest Pakistan.
