A major fire broke out Monday at the state-owned National Buildings Construction Corporation building in the Indian capital, gutting the fourth floor completely, a senior police official said.

"The fire broke out early this morning in one room of the fourth floor, and then it engulfed all the rooms on the same floor. Some 20 fire tenders have been pressed into service and the fire is now under control even though white smoke has still been billowing out. There have been no reports of any casualty yet," he said, on condition of anonymity.

A probe has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the fire, the official added.
