The Sri Lankan cricket board on Tuesday said that an investigation will be launched into the behavior of a national cricketer which is alleged to have attempted to open the door of a passenger plane while it was in mid air.

Sri Lanka Cricket said that it was disappointed to hear of such an incident and will discuss with the matter with the manager of the Sri Lanka 'A' Team.

"An inquiry will be conducted and disciplinary action will be taken on the player concerned if found guilty," Sri Lanka Cricket said.

The national 'A' team player had reportedly attempted to open the door of a British airways flight while it was at 35,000 feet in the air on Monday.

The British media reported that the cricketer was drunk and had claimed he mistook the main aircraft door to the toilet door.

While the door does not open while in mid air the passengers were quoted as saying they were terrified as the cricketer made several attempts to force the door open.

Cricket is a popular game in Sri Lanka especially after the national team won the world cup in 1996 beating Australia in the final.

The 'A' Team is the second tier team in cricket from which most players are selected to the main national team.
