Russia welcomes Syrian opposition's readiness to negotiate with Al-Assad
Russian Foreign Ministry said Thursday that Moscow welcomes Syrian opposition's readiness for a dialogue with the government.
"We always actively stood for a sooner start of the nationwide dialogue with no preconditions. Any statements about readiness to start such a dialogue could only be welcomed," ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich told a news briefing.
On Wednesday, head of the Syrian opposition National Coalition, Ahmed Moaz al Khatib, wrote on his Facebook account that he was prepared to negotiate with President Bashar Al-Assad on the condition that 160,000 political prisoners being held to be freed in advance.
The opposition leader also put other conditions for starting a dialogue.
