Moscow will join the UN Security Council to work out an adequate international response to the latest nuclear test by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), the Foreign Ministry said Thursday.

Moscow will "do its best" in the UNSC framework in reaction to the nuclear test, Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said during a press briefing.

So far there have been no new sanctions on the DPRK following its latest nuclear test, he said.

"The previous UN Security Council resolutions envisioned sanctions. Till now we've not seen any new texts and proposals on additional pressure on Pyongyang," the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, Russia opposed any additional military buildup on the Korean Peninsula, and the latest nuclear test cannot be taken as an excuse to increase military presence in the region, he said.

The DPRK conducted its third nuclear test on Tuesday despite opposition from the international community.
