Kazakhstan sees no reason to start evacuating its nationals from South Korea, a foreign ministry official said Tuesday.

"We are closely monitoring the situation. For the present, our ministry does not see any reason to start the evacuation of our citizens," Zhanbolat Ussenov told a press briefing.

"However, if there will be a need, we are ready to begin the evacuation," he added.

According to the official, there are currently some 2,500 Kazakh citizens in South Korea, including 300 students studying in the country.

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has called on all foreign organizations, companies and tourists in South Korea to prepare for evacuation in case of war as the situation on the Korean Peninsula "is inching close to a thermonuclear war."

South Korea sees the DPRK's warning as "psychological warfare," the presidential office said Tuesday.

"We believe that foreigners in South Korea as well as our nationals will be unfazed as they have great confidence and trust in our military and the Republic of Korea," a presidential spokeswoman said at a press briefing.
