Russia will expand military-technical cooperation with Serbia, Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov said Thursday.

"Military cooperation between the two defense ministries has gained a positive nature," Gerasimov said during talks with his visiting Serbian counterpart Ljubisa Dikovic.

On May 23, Russian and Serbian defense ministers Sergei Shoigu and Aleksandar Vucic met at the European security conference here.

"Certain areas of our interaction that will continue to strengthen were outlined then. We look forward to cooperate in training military staff and conducting joint exercises," Gerasimov said.

Gerasimov invited his Serbian counterpart to attend the MAKS-2013 international air and space show in Moscow region in August and expressed the hope that Russian-Serbian military and technical cooperation would continue to strengthen.

For his part, Dikovic noted that talks on further military cooperation was "interesting."

"We reached an understanding on every issue of bilateral cooperation. In addition to staff training and exercises, we plan to train special units as well as to conduct various military-technical events," he said.

Dikovic invited Gerasimov to visit Serbia.

During the visit, the Serbian delegation plans to visit the Tamanskaya Infantry Division to learn about the organization of combat training and everyday life of soldiers.
