Russian aid planes land in Syria's Latakia airport
Two Russian planes carrying humanitarian aid landed Tuesday afternoon at an airport in Syria's coastal city of Latakia, sources told Xinhua.
The Il-62 and Il-76 aircraft were carrying 46 tons of food, blankets, beds and other assistance items, sources said, adding that the planes might bring back some Russian nationals who want to return home.
Russia sent two planes last month to evacuate 77 of its nationals living in Syria.
The Russian foreign ministry said then that the operation was arranged at the requests of those wanting to be evacuated, most of whom were women and children.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said the situation in Syria requires no "emergency actions" from Moscow following the January operation.
