The Lithuanian government on Monday asked its three ministries to conduct an investigation into whether the country's Centenary Song Celebration, which took place from June 30 to July 6, was properly organized.

"We are happy that the festival took place, however, due to participants' complaints as regards food quality during the festival, we must conduct an investigation and see if there was any mismanagement," Algirdas Stoncaitis, chancellor of Lithuania's government, was quoted as speaking to reporters by local media.

In his words, a general assessment of the organization of the event must be made, including issues of medical services and security during the festival. According to Stoncaitis, the ministries of internal affairs, health and culture have been asked to prepare the assessment within three weeks.

During the festival, numerous participants' complaints about poor food quality and irregular or insufficient food delivery were circulating in local media and social networks.

The Song Celebration was organized by Lithuania's National Center of Culture under the ministry of culture.

The Song Celebration this year was dedicated to mark the centenary of restoration of the country's independence. The Song Celebration gathered together around 36,000 participants and around 10 times more visitors this year, according to organizers.

Tracing its history back to 1924, the Song Celebration is held every four years. The Song Festival is included in the UNESCO world heritage list.
