Portugal's parliament on Wednesday voted to condemn a decision by the Israeli authorities to expel the Palestinian Bedouin community of Khan al-Ahmar on the West Bank to the east of Jerusalem.

The motion, proposed by the Portuguese Communist Party, was backed by lawmakers from the Left Bloc and People-Animals-Nature (PAN) Party, as well as all but seven lawmakers of the ruling Socialist Party (PS).

The motion urges Portuguese government to condemn the decision by Israeli authorities, which constitutes an affront to international law.

In addition to condemning the expulsion decision of Israel, the motion expressed the "solidarity" of parliament with the Palestinian people.

It reaffirmed "the right of the Palestinian people to the recognition of their own state, within pre-1967 borders and with its capital in East Jerusalem, as well as the right of return of the Palestinian refugees, in line with United Nations resolutions."

Israel's Supreme Court in May approved government plans to demolish Khan al-Ahmar, a village located close to several Israeli settlements that is home to some 180 people, as it ruled that the village was built without building permits.
