Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras visited the fire-stricken seaside town of Mati, 30 km east of Athens, on Monday, as the death toll from the July 23 blaze rose to 91.
"I spoke with citizens, civil engineers, soldiers, firemen and volunteers. Unspeakable sorrow, but also immense respect for those that fought an unequal battle with the flames and are now fighting the battle for restoration," he tweeted.
Earlier, the Fire Brigade announced that the number of casualties has risen to 91, while 25 people were still missing and a dozen others fighting for their lives in hospital.
So far, 59 victims have been identified. Approximately 1,260 hectares of land were scorched in devastating fires last week, according to the forest fire monitoring center of the National Observatory of Athens.
