Death toll of swelling river in French island of Corsica rises to five
The lifeless body of a woman was found on Thursday on the French island of Corsica, raising the death toll of the canyoning accident to five, regional authorities said.
Rescuers discovered the body of the 22-year-old victim reported missing on Wednesday after a flash flood swept a canyoning group in the Zoicu canyon spot, according to the Ajaccio prefecture.
Stormy weather in Corse-du-Sud triggered a sudden rise in the water level, killing the people who were canyoning, including a seven-year-old girl and her father.
Two other individuals of the canyoning group were rescued by another hiking group.
