Malaysian Attorney General Tommy Thomas will recuse himself from decisions in which he was personally involved, including the graft case of Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) said on Thursday.

"We wish to report that the AG recused himself in all deliberations (regarding the Lim Guan Eng case), and will not be involved in any decision that the AGC will take in the pending case," the AGC said in a statement.

Tommy served as Lim's counsel when Lim, also former chief minister of the northern Penang state, was accused of corruption involving his purchase of a property below market price.

After the May 9 election, Lim became the finance minister while Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad appointed Tommy as the new AG, leading some to question possible conflict of interests.

The AGC was given until Sept. 3 to decide whether to drop the charges, to which Lim pleaded not guilty.
