The Maldives Elections Commission on Saturday officially declared opposition candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as the winner of Sunday's presidential elections.

According to official and final results released by the Elections Commission, Solih had secured 134,705 votes while incumbent President Abdulla Yameen had secured 96,052 votes. Total votes which had polled in were 233,889.

Elections Commissioner Ahmed Shareef told local media that a total of 423 election-related complaints had been received by Thursday.

"The complaints bureau is investigating the complaints we have received and has decided that none of the complaints we have received so far will have an impact or change the final results of the election," Shareef said.

The Elections Commission earlier this week declared that the presidential polls had been smooth, free and fair despite certain minor complaints while Shareef thanked both the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives and the opposition for maintaining a conducive environment.

The Maldives foreign ministry said the president- elect will be sworn in on Nov. 17.
