A 23-year-old Tunisian illegal immigrant was found dead on Sunday after a boat capsized off the southeast coast of Tunisia, according to a local security source.
On condition of anonymity, the same source said that 11 illegal immigrants were aboard the boat sailing on the night of Saturday to Sunday off Zarzis, a coastal region in southeastern Tunisia, towards the Italian island of Lampedusa.
Five others were rescued and the remaining five immigrants are still missing.
The rescue operation was led by the Tunisian Navy.
According to figures from International Organization for Migration (IOM), Europe have received about 61,517 immigrants and refugees via the Mediterranean as of Aug. 12, 2018.
IOM figures show that more than 4,000 illegal immigrants have crossed the Mediterranean towards Italian coasts since the beginning of this year.
