Former Macedonian interior minister Gordana Jankulovska was sentenced to six years in prison for abuse of power and authorization on the procurement procedure of a luxury Mercedes C600, local media reported on Monday.

According to the court decision that found her guilty for abuse of power and authorization, Jankulovska knew that the vehicle was an extremely expensive car and that it was supplied under unlawful procedures.

Jankulovska's lawyer Sanja Aleksic, however, claimed that the court decision is unfounded.

The trial for Jankulovska started at the end of August this year and it was separated from the other two defendants due to her pregnancy.

In January 2017, the Special Prosecutor's Office in Macedonia launched the investigation named "Tank" regarding the purchase of the "Mercedes C600" worth about 600,000 euros (around 688,000 U.S. dollars).

So far, for the same case, former Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski has been sentenced to two years in prison and former assistant minister at the Interior Ministry, Gjoko Popovski, with six years and six months in prison.
