The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) and the National Guard killed two followers of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group in the country's Republic of Dagestan on Saturday, the National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAC) said.
During a counter-terrorist operation, the security authorities received intelligence that armed gangsters involved in a number of terrorist crimes were hiding in a private house in a village, said an NAC press release.
The FSB special forces, backed by the National Guard and police, blocked the house where the suspects were hiding and evacuated the residents of the nearby houses.
Two gunmen who refused to lay down their arms and surrender were killed in an exchange of fire. Two FSB special forces officers and one National Guard officer were wounded. No civilians were injured.
