Israel's Elbit Systems will operate its flagship UAS (Unmanned Aircraft System) in the European Union (EU) countries, in a 68-million-dollar deal, the security company reported Thursday.

According to the report, the company won a framework contract to provide the unmanned aircraft operating services as part of maritime patrol missions for EU member countries.

The services will be provided through Elbit, which will be a subcontractor of the franchise in this program, CEiiA engineering company of Portugal.

The program's leader is the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA). The contract with CEiiA will be for two years, with an option for another two years.

As part of the deal, Elbit will operate its "Hermes 900" unmmaned aerial system (UAS), equipped with special cargos that would allow it to conduct long-range observations along the coasts and in various areas at sea.

Thus, the UAS will carry the same tasks as marine radar, electro-optic means, satellite communication systems, and more.
