Foreign ministers of Belarus and Russia on Wednesday expressed concern over the growing tensions in the Eurasian continent.

The U.S. intention to withdraw from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty and the buildup of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's military activity near the borders of Belarus and Russia pose challenges to the two countries' security, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said here at a press conference following a meeting between the two countries' foreign ministries.

The Russian minister stressed that the challenges require an appropriate response.

Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei said that there is a feeling that the world has not become aware of the growing threat of a large military conflict.

The minister said the destruction of the fundamental agreements on international security continues and military capabilities are further strengthened, including in Europe, close to Belarus.
