Lebanon's General Security chief Abbas Ibrahim said Tuesday that the new cabinet will be formed soon in Lebanon, local media reported.
Ibrahim made the announcement after holding discussions with six independent Sunni lawmakers about their representation in the new government, the MTV reported.
"We are on the right track. We will witness the formation of a new government very soon if we do not face additional obstacles," he said, without revealing further details.
Meanwhile, Kassem Hashem, one of the six independent Sunni lawmakers demanding to be represented in the government, also said in a televised interview on MTV that the cabinet formation will take place before Christmas.
After the general elections in May, the first in nearly a decade, Lebanese cabinet's formation has been repeatedly delayed due to the rifts among different political parties about their share in the new government.
The latest obstacle was that of the representation of the six independent Sunni Lawmakers in the cabinet, which was mainly rejected by Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri.
Hariri argued that the six Sunni lawmakers do not have the right of representation because they are not part of a unified parliamentary block.
