Israel's army said it intercepted a Syrian anti-aircraft missile Tuesday night, after Syria claimed that Israeli missiles were intercepted near the capital Damascus.
An Israeli military spokesperson said in a statement that an aerial defense system in Israel went off against "an anti-aircraft missile launched from Syria."
No damage or injuries were reported.
The incident came shortly after the Syrian media reported that Israeli missiles were launched against Iranian targets near Damascus, with some of them intercepted by Syrian air-defense systems.
The incident also occurred amidst heightened tensions in the region, in the wake of U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement to pull out U.S. forces from Syria.
Following the U.S. decision, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed that Israel would intensify its attacks against Iranian targets in Syria, which the Jewish state considers as a threat.
