Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said here on Monday that Belarus is ready to promote comprehensive trade and economic cooperation with Hungary.

The volume of trade between Belarus and Hungary is about 180-200 million U.S. dollars a year, Lukashenko said during his meeting with Hungary's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto. "This figure is extremely small taking into account the capacity of our countries," he added.

The Belarusian leader said it is ready to push forward bilateral economic and trade cooperation in various fields.

Meanwhile, he noted that Belarus' membership in the Eurasian Economic Union and participation in the Belt and Road Initiative should be taken into account.

In his turn, Peter Szijjarto stressed that Hungary as a country of Central Europe supports the development of cooperation between the West and the East.

"We say this because it is the interest of the Hungarian people. We want to join our efforts with all who consider cooperation between the West and the East important," he said.

Therefore, we are working to ensure that Belarus could cooperate more closely with the European Union, the minister explained.
