The statement, a copy of which was obtained by Xinhua, said that the workshop dealt with investigations and prosecutions related to the robbery and illegal sales of antiquities, including the sales of cultural property to finance terrorist activities.

It also discussed topics such as strategies to address cultural property crimes and promotion of opportunities for regional and international cooperation, the statement added.

The statement further revealed that Washington is working on concluding an agreement with Algiers in the near future for protection of cultural heritage in line with the 1970 UNESCO Convention on Cultural Property.
