Sri Lanka's state owned Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) on Monday said that following severe dry weather prevailing in the island country, daily power cuts would be imposed throughout the country for four hours.

General Manager of CEB S.D.W Gunawardana told local journalists that Sri Lanka faced a shortfall in hydro power generation due to lack of rain in the reservoir areas.

He said power cuts would be imposed for three hours during the day and one hour in the night, which would be phased out by dividing the country into three different zones.

Sri Lanka's Meteorology Department Friday re-issued an extreme heat advisory for several districts of the country as temperatures were expected to soar in the coming weeks.

The department issued the severe heat advisory for Mannar in the north, Puttalam and Kurunegala in the northwest and Monaragala in the Uva Province.

Several other areas including capital Colombo were also warned to remain cautious due to the extreme heat.
