At the end of September 2018, there were 605 outstanding arrest warrants against 467 individuals belonging to the political right, the German Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) announced on Thursday.

The vast majority of arrest warrants against right-wing extremists in Germany related to crimes such as theft, fraud or insult, according to the BKA.

The Federal Criminal Police Office noted that only twelve outstanding arrest warrants were connected to violent crimes that were politically right-wing motivated.

"The federal and state security authorities are intensively dealing with people who belong to the political right-wing scene and are wanted as suspects or convicts of crimes with arrest warrants," said BKA president Holger Muench.

A further 98 outstanding arrest warrants were for crimes with politically right-wing motivation, such as the use of unconstitutional symbols, like the swastika, and incitement to hatred.

The BKA noted that there had been no open arrest warrants for terrorist acts nor were there any outstanding warrants for right-wing terror threats in Germany at that time.

According to the most recent German police crime statistics, crime in Germany fell to its lowest rate since 1992 last year. The German police's crime clearance rate of 56.5 percent last year was the highest since 2005.

According to the BKA, more than half of the open arrest warrants against right-wing extremists will be executed by the next deadline in May.

"This shows that the police are carrying out the manhunts vigorously and successfully," BKA president Muench said.

Germany started to record the number of outstanding arrest warrants in 2012 after the German terror group "National Socialist Underground" (NSU) killed several people in a series of politically right-wing motivated bomb attacks.
