Police in several parts of Norway had to ask people to stop disturbing holiday peace on Thursday morning, public broadcaster NRK reported.

Maundy Thursday is known as the first holy day celebrated in Norway during Easter.

However, there have been several reports on partying, saw use and noise from construction sites during the first part of the day, NRK reported.

"The police have received complaints regarding the holiday peace. From what is experienced, there will be more of it during Easter," the police wrote on Twitter.

"We therefore remind you that the holiday peace law applies throughout the holiday and after 1600 on the Eve of Easter. Think through and use common sense before starting noisy work," it said.

Tor Jokling, operational director of Oslo police, told NRK that on public holidays from midnight to midnight, there shall be a holiday peace that no one at any place shall disturb with improper noise.

According to Norwegian Act relating to holidays, it is not allowed to interfere with unacceptable noise within certain periods during holidays.
