Kenyan Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) stopped trading on Tuesday following a technical hitch that affected the entire day's activities at the equities and bond segments.
The NSE's Head of Brand and Corporate Affairs Waithera Mwai-Ireri said in a statement that trading stopped at about 11:52 a.m. local time, resulting into a market halt.
"The NSE wishes to notify market participants, investors, key stakeholders and the general public that trading at the NSE has been temporarily halted due to a technical hitch which occurred on Jan. 8. The aforementioned has affected trading of equities resulting in a market halt," said Mwai-Ireri.
He assured that the NSE's technical teams are working to resolve the issue in the shortest time possible, with the intention to restore normal trading hours by Jan. 9.
