Tokyo stocks opened higher Monday as investor sentiment was lifted by U.S. shares advancing at the end of the previous business week, with a comparatively weak yen versus the U.S. dollar giving exporter issues a boost.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 95.26 points, or 0.44 percent, from Friday to 21,520.77.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 8.97 points, or 0.56 percent, at 1,618.49.

Miscellaneous product, pulp and paper, and securities house-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
