U.S. federal securities regulator has started a new campaign to educate investors, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) said on Monday.

The SEC said it now provides free tools and unbiased information for investor education on its "Investor.gov" website.

Released with an intro-video on SEC's YouTube channel, SEC's new education program would answer the most frequently asked questions in order to teach new investors the basics of investment.

According to the SEC, these questions would include planning for retirement, reading the report of publicly traded company, checking out the background of an investment professional and other basic knowledge.

"Asking the right questions of yourself and of those who provide financial services is key to getting started and staying on the right track," said Jay Clayton, chairman of the SEC.

"Whether you're an experienced investor or new to the market, Investor.gov can help you identify questions and find answers," said Clayton.

The SEC is a regulatory agency of the U.S. federal government, aimed at enforcing the federal securities laws, proposing securities rules. The agency watches over and regulates the securities industry, the stock market, the options exchanges, and other activities and organizations in the United States.
