Amidst the ongoing economic slowdown, sales of commercial vehicles in India witnessed a decline of over 17 percent in November 2019, compared year-on-year.

A total of 57,510 units were sold during the month, as compared to 69,666 units sold during the same month last year.

Delay in completion of infrastructure projects is being cited as the main reason for the drop in sales of commercial vehicles.

Demand for the commercial vehicles continues to remain under pressure led by the slow pace of industrial activity, delayed infrastructure projects due to the extended rain, and higher operating costs, among other factors.

Domestic sales at the country's largest commercial vehicle maker "Tata Motors" dropped by nearly 17 percent to 27,657 units in November 2019, from 33,488 units a year ago, said figures released by the company. This included medium and heavy commercial vehicle (M&HCV) sales at 6,050 units in November 2019, versus 9,793 units during the same month last year, down by 38 percent.

The country's second largest commercial vehicles maker Ashok Leyland's domestic M&HCV and Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) sales declined by 25 percent to 9377 units during November, from 12,570 units a year ago. Its M&HCV sales alone were down 36 percent to 5,321 units from 8,260 units.
