The beloved X man and Les Miserables star Hugh Jackman has decided not to play on the planned Broadway musical, in which he is to portray the legendary illusionist Harry Houdini.

His scheduling demands were cited as his reason for quitting Houdini, "I have greatly enjoyed the collaborative process on Houdini, however, I wasn't able to commit to the time this role will require."

In a release, he said, "I have tremendous respect and admiration for the creative team and I wish everyone the best," adding "I know they're well on their way to making something extraordinary."

Jackman has spent a long time with this project, the first touch was five years ago. Since then the project group has been reshuffled for many times.

Of the big star's departure this time, producer of Houdini Scott Sanders said, "Hugh has been terrific to have on this part of our journey."

Seven years before, Jackman starred a magician in the film The Prestige with Christian Bale, which aroused huge attention and roaring reputation.

No doubt, his quit might be a bit discouraging, though Sanders said, "we will continue to move forward with our remarkable creative team as they craft this ambitious new musical."
